As mentioned in previous communications, on 1 January 2021 .EU domain names registered to UK and GI registrants were moved to “SUSPENDED” status; and on 1 July 2021 the domain names were placed in the “WITHDRAWN” status.

EURid has now announced that all Brexit-related domain names, which were moved to the “WITHDRAWN” status on 1 July 2021, will be revoked and released on Monday, 3 January 2022, instead of the previously communicated date of Saturday, 1 January 2022.

About 48,000 domain names will become available for general registration on a “first come, first served” basis. The release of these domain names will happen in batches starting at 10:00:00 CET on 3 January 2022 and will be finalized by the end of the day.

Bahrain: Relaunch of ccTLD .BH and Launch of .البحرين (.xn--mgbcpq6gpa1a – “.albahrain” in Arabic)

As we informed you a few weeks ago ccTLD Registry operator Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), for the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced the relaunch of the ccTLD .BH and the launch of the IDN TLD .البحرين (.xn--mgbcpq6gpa1a – “.albahrain” in Arabic).

The current Sunrise Phase for .BH top level domains will end on 2 January 2022 and will follow with a Local Phase; while registration of domains under the corresponding IDN TLD in Arabic .البحرين (.xn--mgbcpq6gpa1a – “albahrain”) are following a Grandfathering phase that ends 3 May 2022.

.IN Registry launches 29 new zones

NIXI, the Indian Registry, recently launched 29 new zones: 5G.IN, 6G.IN, AI.IN, AM.IN, BIHAR.IN, BIZ.IN, BUSINESS.IN, CA.IN, CN.IN, COM.IN, COOP.IN, CS.IN, DELHI.IN, DR.IN, ER.IN, GUJARAT.IN, INFO.IN, INT.IN, INTERNET.IN, IO.IN, ME.IN, PG.IN, POST.IN, PRO.IN, TRAVEL.IN, TV.IN, UK.IN, UP.IN, US.IN.

Sunrise A, for Indian registrants holding Indian trademarks, is currently open while Sunrise B, intended for overseas registrants holding Indian trademarks, opened on 6 December 2021. Both will run until 20 December 2021, after which there will be a quiet period before General Availability opens on 27 December 2021.

For Sunrise A and Sunrise B, a copy of the trademark or service mark registration will be required. The trademark or service mark registration must be current (non-expired) and valid and must have been issued in the applicant’s name prior to 31 December 2020. The domain name applied for must match the trademark or service mark. For all Sunrise applications there will be a non-refundable fee of Rs.250 (INR), and all Sunrise domains that are awarded have to be registered for a period of 5 years, the yearly registration fee will be Rs.250 (INR). There is no requirement to have a matching trademark or service mark in General Availability.
