Belgium planning IDNs in 2008
|
|
DNS BE has announced its plans to launch IDNs in 2008.
In the course of 2008 DNS BE will be implementing domain names containing accented characters following the IDN standard (Internationalised Domain Name). Only symbols used in one of Belgium's different official languages (Dutch, French and German) will be offered (eg. à, é, è ê, â etc.).
First a sunrise period will be implemented during which companies can request names on which they have prior rights (trade mark, company name,...).
The official list of characters will be published in due time on DNS BE's website as well as information concerning the timing, the sunrise period and the procedures to be followed.
