With over 300,000 applications submitted, the .ASIA Landrush is now under way, running until 12 March 2008. It’s not first past the post. There’s still time to apply. Applicants for the same term will face an auction.
When the .ASIA Landrush began on 20 February 2008, 266,663 applications were submitted within 24 hours as IP owners rushed for domains they could not secure under the Sunrise, including company names or trade marks that had been applied for but not registered. They were competing with the massed ranks of domainers and other exploiters of domain names, seeking generic terms, place and family names, premium numbers etc. 28,000 domain names received more than one application on the first day.
The Landrush period will remain open for three weeks, until 12 March 2008. Unlike previous Landrush periods, such as that for .eu, the .ASIA Landrush is not operating on a “First Come First Served” basis. Instead it is possible to submit an application at any time during the three week period and still have a chance of winning your desired domain. All applications received in the Landrush, whether on the first day or the last, will be treated equally. If you are the sole applicant for a term, you will win the name and can start using it immediately. However, if you are in competition with others for the domain, an auction will be held between the applicants. You will be given 10 days notice of the date of the auction, which is conducted electronically by Pool.com using an English system so that the highest bidder wins.
Anyone, anywhere in the world can submit a Landrush application provided they can supply a so-called Charter Eligibility Contact who is a legal entity in one of the 73 countries covered by .ASIA. If you cannot supply this contact, we’ve set up a company called Domain Licenses Asia Limited to help you.
We are charging £50 to submit a Landrush application plus the official fees of $20.
